Stoke and England goalkeeper Jack Butland has revealed he will undergo surgery next week on his injured ankle.
Butland
is yet to play this season having sustained an injury in training with
the Potters last month to the same ankle he broke while on international
duty in March.
Reports have suggested he could be facing another two months out of action.
Jack Butland hasn't played so far this season after sustaining an injury in pre-season training
Butland wrote on Twitter on Friday: "A little update on the injury! I'll be having a minor operation on Monday to resolve my current ankle issue!"
The
23-year-old had ambitions to rival England No 1 Joe Hart and Fraser
Forster but hasn't had a chance to impress manager Sam Allardyce.
The Stoke goalkeeper picked up his injury just one day before Stoke's opening game against Middlesbrough.
The goalkeeper used his
Twitter account to inform his followers of his injury status
He has been ruled out of Stoke's next eight Premier League games given the time needed to recover from surgery.
It also means that he will miss England's World Cup 2018 qualifiers in October against Malta and Slovenia.
Butland broke his ankle while playing for England against Germany in Berlin in March
It is also likely that he won't be available for selection for the November friendly matches against Scotland and Spain.
Stoke
boss Mark Hughes was forced to bring in goalkeeper Lee Grant on loan
from Derby until January in order to cover up for Butland's absence.
