Celta 2-2 Real Madrid (agg. 4-3): Merengue dumped out of the Copa del Rey with draw

A blistering free-kick effort from Cristiano Ronaldo was not enough to avoid another damaging defeat for Real Madrid, as Celta held on for a 2-2 draw to dump the Merengue out of the Copa del Rey.

Nacho is forced into action at left-back and he knocks the ball behind for a corner. Celta play it short and Bongonda tries to squeeze a low cross in from the goal-line, but his delivery is well blocked by Casemiro.
Ronaldo rises highest to meet a cross and heads it on to the crossbar. The ball then comes back and hits him again, before hitting the post and bouncing clear.

Madrid have a mountain to climb now! Aspas beats Nacho to a lose ball just outside the Madrid box and he coolly squares to Guidetti around the penalty spot. His effort is saved by Casilla, but the ball rebounds on to Danilo and into the net.

Ronaldo smashes his free-kick into the left side of the goal with a fine strike and the visitors are level on the day, and just one behind on aggregate.

Brilliant play by the home side, as they pass the ball around on the edge of the Madrid box and eventually Wass coolly strokes into the bottom-right corner from 18 yards. Shocking defending, but credit to Celta.

A Kroos corner is flicked on by Benzema and substitute Vazquez nods it in at the far post. Surely Madrid can't do this?

Madrid's Copa del Rey tilt is over for another season as they crash out 4-3 on aggregate. They put up a fight, certainly, but in the end Celta out-battled them and deservedly progress after a 2-2 draw on the day in Vigo.
