Olivier Giroud: Even my Arsenal team-mates think Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s scorpion kick was better

Olivier Giroud has revealed he was teased by his Arsenal team-mates after scoring a spectacular scorpion kick goal against Crystal Palace.

The French star demonstrated incredible technique to flick Alexis Sanchez’s slightly wayward cross past Wayne Hennessey on New Year’s Day.

The stunning strike came just a week after Manchester United summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan performed a similar feat against Sunderland.

While the footballing world could not decide which effort was better, Giroud admits his Arsenal team-mates thought Mkhitaryan’s was on a different level.

When asked about the reaction in the Gunners’ dressing room following the goal, Giroud told Soccer AM: ‘Actually they were teasing me saying Mkhitaryan’s goal was better!

‘It’s crazy that two similar goals were scored in one week. I don’t know if I was inspired but I think mine is better, no?

‘We were all surprised by what happened.’
